Every winter, Harbin is home to the worlds largest Snow and Ice Festival. Huge blocks of ice are cut from the nearby river and used to build impressive sculptures. The Festival started in 1962, stopped form some time in the 70's then resumed in it's current form in 1984. Officially, the festival starts January 5th and lasts one month. However the exhibits often open earlier and stay longer, weather permitting. This is the major tourist attraction in Harbin. Do not miss it.
