Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Spot
The worlds largest sitting Buddha statue. It is carved into the hillside looking out across the river. Legend says that the river here, where two rivers join, was dangerous to navigate. The Buddha was carved to protect the sailors. After the Buddha was finished, the river became calm and safe. Today it is a major tourist attraction as well as a site of pilgrimage. The UNESCO has recorded Leshan and the Giant Buddha as a World Heritage Site.
